# Navigating folders

A folder is a list of names, sizes, and dates. Double-click a folder, or select it and press `Enter`, to open it. Double-click a file, or press `Enter`, to open it with Windows.

- `Alt + Up` or `Backspace` goes to the parent. `Backspace` does this from the file list, so it still deletes text in a text field.
- `Alt + Left` goes back. `Alt + Right` or `Shift + Backspace` goes forward.
- `F5` reloads the folder.
- `Ctrl + L` edits the path. Type a path and press `Enter`.
- `Alt + Home` opens the [home view](Home-view.md).

Drag a selection out of the window onto another folder or program.
